IPL Betting Options

IPL season is one of our favorite times of the year. IPL isn’t perfect, but you can’t argue that the matches and fan excitement are hard to beat.

All of our recommended online betting sites for Indian players offer bets on IPL matches. In addition, some offer gambling options beyond regular match bets.

Some of the most popular IPL bets are:

Top Batsman: this IPL bet is where you are predicting which batsman will get the most runs in a match. [Cricket note: both team’s batsmen will be in consideration. This bet can be wagered for a single IPL match, or for overall top batsman in IPL.]

Team of Top Batsman: this Indian Premier League bet is similar to the Top Batsman, however you pick a specific team and then you are looking for the top batsman with the highest runs in the match on that specific team.

Top Bowler: this is a wager on which bowler will have the greatest number of wickets in either a single match or IPL overall.

Top Team Bowler: cricket bettors choose which bowler will have the highest wickets taken for his team. (if there is a tie with two or more bowlers having the identical number of wickets the winner goes to the one with the lowest number of runs allowed.)

Match Winner: basic betting option; the bet is to correctly choose the winner of the IPL match.

Tournament Winner: popular cricket bet, bet is to correctly choose the team that will win the overall tournament.

To Win the Toss: a bet on who wins the coin toss at the start of the IPL match.

Match Score: cricket bet where your bet is on the total number of runs scored by a team at the end of a single IPL match.

Most Match Sixes: a wager on which team will score the most sixes in an IPL match. [sixes happen when a shot reaches the boundary or passes without rolling or bouncing.]

Most Runs Out:  this betting option allows you to wager on on which team will get the most runs-out in the match.

Man of the Match: betting on which cricketer is selected the man of the match for his performance. [Cricket betting tip, it’s typically awarded to a player from the winning team and, more likely than not a batsman, unless a bowler had a very good match.)

Runs Off Next Ball – Live IPL betting: in-play betting allows for this exciting Indian Premier League betting option where cricket punters are wagering on the plays ball after ball.

Method of Dismissal – Live IPL Betting: another in play betting option where IPL punters can wager on how the cricketer will be dismissed. [Normally: Bowled, Run Out, Caught, Stumped, LBW, or Any Other]

IPL Betting Tips

Our free online betting guide dives deeper into the details and amount of cricket betting tips, but we want to give you some basic IPL sports betting tips below.

  1. Determine the amount of money you can comfortably bet on IPL without negatively impacting your life – we promote responsible cricket betting.
  2. Research historical match-ups – At the start of the season, when there isn’t any current data available, we typically look at the past 1-2 years. Be sure to consider key roster changes between seasons. Including if a team makes a strong addition to their roster, or they lose a key player. As the new season progresses, you are able to factor current team form into your analysis.
  3. Research how well the team plays home and away – depending on the team, the home field advantage can be a real thing. It is true with nearly every sport, there is an advantage for home teams vs away. Travel interrupts routines and adds takes time. Additionally, home teams have familiar surroundings not only in the stadium, but also the dressing room. Lastly, the energy from home fans can give teams an added boost especially in key moments of the match.
  4. Be sure to ONLY bet with trusted cricket betting sites like 10Cric.com or Betway.com. We do not recommend street bookies or untrustworthy sites.

What is the indian premier leauge?

Indian Premier League, or IPL as it is popularly known, was announced as a new franchised based Twenty20 cricket tournament on September 13th 2007. The first season started the following year in April 2008.

IPL was announced, launched, and fully recognized by the BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India. BCCI is the India’s national governing body for cricket. The BCCI was formed in December of 1928 and is still fully functioning today.

The IPL story goes that Lalit Modi, then BCCI Vice-President, dreamt up the idea behind the Indian Premier League, everything from the Twenty-20 tournament formatting, franchise revenue payouts, prize money, and team rules.

Lalit Modi has said that he planned the IPL for a full two years before the announcement in September 2007.

The IPL is governed by a seven-man counsel comprised of BCCI officials and former Indian cricket players. The two top cricket teams of the IPL qualify for that year’s Champions League Twenty20. The IPL was designed after the Premier League of England, EPL, and the NBA in the US.

IPL Tournament Format

The Indian Premier League format is set up into 2 main sections. It is modeled after the Twenty20, T20.

The first section is formatted as a double round-robin tournament where each cricket team plays each other twice, one home & one away cricket match.

The winning IPL cricket team is awarded 2 points while the losing cricket team receives 0 points. If the match ends with No Result, then each cricket team is awarded 1 point each.

After all the cricket matches in the first section finish, the 4 IPL teams with the most points advance to the second section, the playoffs.

The second section of the IPL is the playoffs of the 4 IPL teams with the most points from the double round-robin tournament.

This is where the cricket betting gets really fun!

It is kind of confusing but the IPL playoffs are structured as below:

1. The first match of the playoffs is played with the top 2 cricket teams from the first section.
2. The winning team in the first match of the IPL playoffs advances to the Indian Premier League Championship

a. The losing team is not eliminated…yet

3. The second match of the playoffs is between the 3rd & 4th teams in the standings.

a. The loser of the second match is eliminated from the IPL tournament

b. The winner of the second match moves on to play the loser from the first match!

4. The third match is between the loser of the first match and winner of the second match

a. This IPL match winner moves on to the Indian Premier League Championship
